 Sandwiched
between Nepal and Bhutan, the Indian state of
Sikkim on the southern slopes of the Eastern Himalayas,
located north of West Bengal state of India was
an independent monarchy until the seventies. With
an area of only 7,300 sq. kilometers, this state
closely follows the age-old historical finks established
with Tibet. Besides the cultural heritage Sikkim
offers spectacularly close views of the third
highest mountain in the world, Mt. Kanchenjunga
(8435 m).
A visit to Sikkim should be accompanied by a few
nights stopover in two of the most beautiful hill
stations of the Indian state of West Bengal: Darjeeling
and Kalimpong. These quaint and picturesque areas
inhabited by people of Nepalese origin still boast
of many vestiges of the British Raj when the governor-
general and his entourage escaped the heat of
Calcutta for a Himalayan retreat.

ITINERARY BRIEF
Sikkim Glimpse series are designed for those
who are pressed for time. In option 'A' we offer
a tour to Gangtok (The Capital of Sikkim) and
areas of Tourists interest around it - with
a visit to Pemayangtse - in West Sikkim - on
your way out. The option 'B' is Pemayangtse
based with a visit to Versey - near Nepal boarders-
where you have rhododendron blooming in myriad
colours in April and May -involving an easy
trek of 10 kms and spend a night at a hot sulfur
water spring on Rangeet River Side.
