Report on Participation of Nepal Tourism Board / Nepal Incentive & Convention Association at Eibtm 2007 in Barcelona, 27-29 November 2007

EIBTM was in its 20th year and the 2007 event promised to be one of the most business effective, comprehensive, innovative events to date.

Hosted Buyer Facts
  • Buyers are drawn from key markets around the world. In Europe they include the UK - 17.8%, Germany - 18.1%, Spain - 3.6%, France - 12%, Italy - 9%, Benelux - 7.9%, Scandinavia - 4.1%, and for the Rest of the World - 8.9%.
  • 46.4% of all Hosted Buyers are Final Decision Makers
  • 37.6% of all Hosted Buyers have annual budgets of over $1 Million
  • 47.9% of all Hosted Buyers organise over eleven International events every year
  • 51% of all Hosted Buyers were interested in placing business in the Asia Region
  • 88% of Hosted Buyers feel that EIBTM has the right exhibitors for them
  • 65% of exhibitors rated the quality of buyers as high or very high

Here are key statistics for 2007.

Exhibitors
351 Main Stand Holders, 2942 exhibiting partners - Total 3293. (This is an increase from 2006)

Visitors
  • 3303 Hosted Buyers. An increase of 18% from 2006
  • 3824 Trade Buyers. An increase of 24% from 2006
  • 465 Press/VIPs’. An increase of 56% from 2006
  • Total 7592 visitors. An increase of 23%
Nepal Incentive & Convention Association exhibited at the show with co-sponsorship from Nepal Tourism Board. President of NICA and Managing Director of Marco Polo Travels Mr. Subodh Rana was present together with Mr. Suman Shrestha of Hyatt Regency Kathmandu.

The interest for Nepal was significant as Nepal has been out of the picture for MICE tourism for half a decade since the law and order situation started deteriorating. The first casualty was the upscale travel segment - MICE. However, this market, at least the incentive market, has been slowly coming back and there was significant interest shown by the incentive houses and the end users.

Our appointment book was full, with 36 Pre-scheduled appointments made at the request of the Buyers from a possible slot of 42. 9 Audio-visual Destination Presentations were made by President, NICA to a total audience of 71 registered buyers. The response shown was very positive with some already booking possible trips in 2008 and 2009.
