Guangzhou
The "City of Lambs", is the capital of Guangdong Province as well as a well-known historical and cultural city and south China's leading industrial and commercial city and trade port. Vegetation is evergreen and flowers bloom all the year round. There are more than 150 famed scenes and sights in Guangzhou and a good variety of modern facilities for recreation and entertainment.
Beijing and Surrounds
Capital of the People's Republic of China, it is the nation's political, economic and cultural center as well as a hum of transportation and international exchanges. As a celebrated international tourist centre, Beijing's land is beautified by green trees and lots of well-manicured lawns and strewn with former imperial mansions and other old buildings, religious shrines and modern structures. A rich heritage in culture and art brought to life by burgeoning urban development has made Beijing the dream place to be for travelers from around the world.
Tian'ammen Square
Large enough to hold 1 million people, the 440,000-square-metre Tian'anmen Square in the centre of Beijing is the world's largest city square where sunrises and sunsets are observed. The monument to the people's heroes stands in the centre of the square. The Great Hall of the People stands on the western side. The night scene of Tian'anmen Square is definitely a MUST for any visitor to Beijing.
Temple of Heaven
China's largest temple and altar are found in Temple of Heaven, part of a 273 hectare park in Chongwen District today. Built in 1420, it was where Ming and Qing monarchs prayed for good harvests. Major structures are Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest, Imperial Vault of heaven, Circular Altar, and Abstinence Palace.
Forbidden City
This Palace Museum was the imperial palace for the Ming and Qing. There is a huge stone ramp carved with intricate dragon and cloud patterns, Imperial Garden and Nine-Dragon Screen Wall.
Great Wall
The 6350 kim Great Wall was in China's feudal years a mammoth defense bulwark that serpentines its way across mountains and valleys in the northern part of the country. It came under construction in the 7th century BC but it was Qinshihuang, the founding emperor of the Qin, who brought it to completion.
Ming Tombs
The Ming Tombs are scattered over an area of 40 km in Changping County. Thirteen Ming emperors who ruled China after they moved the capital from Nanjing to Beijing were buried there.
Summer Palace
It was built in 1750 and by far the best-preserved imperial garden in China. As a paragon of Chinese gardens, this huge garden includes Longevity Hill, whose beauty is set off by a multitude of halls, kiosks and trees and Kunming Lake, a huge body of liquid silver.
Shanghai and Surrounds
China's leading industrial and commercial city and major financial center is located in the middle of the cost of the Chinese mainland and on the shore of Yangtze River. The policy of reform and opening up to the outside world has transformed Shanghai into a sophisticated metropolis with a well-developed network of land, air and sea transportation.
Temple of Jade Buddha
The Yufo (Jade Buddha) Temple was built in 1882 but after all those years it remains in perfect condition as a sanctuary of Zen Buddhism. The image of the Buddha, his graceful posture, and the serene and calm look on his face are to put it just in one word mesmerizing.
The Oriental TV Tower
The tower is a new landmark of Shanghai which faces the Bund across the Huangpu River at Lujiazui, the busiest part of Pudong New Area. At a height of 468 metres it is the tallest TV tower in Asia. An elevator whisks visitors to the tower's observational deck at a height of 263 metres where they can feast their eyes on a panoramic view of Shanghai.
People's Square
It is the political and cultural centre of Shanghai. The square is home to a gigantic music fountain, several dozen thousand square meters of green patches, the Shanghai New Museum with a unique design, the magnificent City Hall, a spacious underground shopping centre and the splendid Grand Shanghai Theatre.
China's Eastern Seaboard
Hangzhou
Hangzhou, one of the famous historical and cultural cities in China and one of the country's seven major ancient capitals. As a renowned garden like city and a top tourist city in china, Hangzhou lies by the water and hills, showing natural, exquisite and picturesque scenery. Together with Suzhou of Jiangsu Province, Hangzhou is praised as the "paradise on earth". As early as in the 13th century, Marco Polo, a famous Italian traveler, gasped in admiration at scenic Hangzhou , saying, "It is the most beautiful city in the world".
West Lake
Mountains with luxuriant trees and flowers surround Hangzhou's West Lake. Ancient pavilions, terraces, and gardens-within- gardens have been built on its islets. Amidst the stone pagodas and teahouses, temples, caves and hidden springs within the lake, you'll feel as though you are a figure in a traditional Chinese painting.
Linyin Temple
The Lingyin Monastery was built in 326 AD, and still stands there. The monastery enshrines a 32-metre wood-carved Buddha, and an underground series of caves decorated with Buddhist carvings.
Suzhou
100 km east of Shanghai, located on the shores of Taihu Lake in Jiangsu Province, Suzhou is a renowned historical and cultural city. The gardens of Suzhou are famous both in and outside China: Canglang Pavilion, Lion Grove, Wangshi Garden and Liuyuan Garden are treasures from the Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasties in southern China. Suzhou also features enchanting landscapes and is well-known as a gathering place for cultured and talented people and natural products. There is a popular Chinese saying describing the beauty of the city: "In heaven there is a Paradise, on earth there are Suzhou and Hangzhou."
Wuxi
Wuxi was originally a mining town, which, legend has it, exhausted its tin deposits, hence its name, which in Chinese literally means "tinless". It subsequently became an arts and cultural center, with several famous Chinese authors claiming Wuxi as their home town. A coastal city of Jiangsu province; one of the 15 economic central cities in China; one of the 10 important tourist cities in China; called "homeland of fish and rice"
Taihu Lake
Located in the southern part of the Yangtze River delta, Taihu Lake is the third largest freshwater lake in China. Taihu Lake is a famous scenic spot in China and is famed for its lake, its hills and its splendid man-made scenery. The best place to view the beautiful Taihu Lake is on the Turtle Head Islet. Turtle Head Islet is an islet stretching into the lake, whose shape is really like the head of a turtle protruding from the water. Turtle Head Islet Park is mainly made of the natural landscape,augmented by man-made additions. Flowers and trees can be seen everywhere. Various kinds of architecture are strategically placed among the trees and shrubs. All conspire to make the park graceful and elegant.
Taihu Lake is an abundant source of fish. Traveling there, you can taste the famous delicious food known as 'Taihu Lake Three Whites', including white shrimp, whitebait and whitefish. The feast is generally prepared in the boat as one floats on the placid waters of Taihu Lake. It is very well worth a visit.
Sanya
Lying on the southernmost tip of Hainan Island, the city of Sanya is skirted by mountains on three sides and its 180 km long coast is covered with whitish fine sand. The sea close by features a flat bottom and gentle waves which are ideal for swimming, surfing and motorboat racing. Lagoons, islands, coconut tree groves, beaches and caves are trump cards for Sanya to attract visitors. With 300 fine days a year, Sanya is a famed tourist city and winter resort.
